Guitar Basics
Guitar, a very popular and ancient musical instrument is uniquely used
in a lot of musical varieties. Typically, a guitar comprises six strings, but
now-a-days you have guitars with seven, ten or even twelve strings.
Any music it may be, either rock or country, be it any pop music or classy
country type, you can not do without a guitar. You can have a great performance
individually too! Wood and steel or nylon strings make up an original guitar.
There are basically two modes by which you can play a guitar, which is
either acoustically played or playing with an amplifier. You may find a variety
of guitars. In an acoustic guitar, the hollow body helps to generate sound notes
created due to vibration of the strings without involving any outer source to
create the effect. The sound of the strings generated depends on the wooden
piece that is mounted on the front of the guitar. You would need an external
amplifier as the sound generated from an acoustic guitar is far more refined as
compared to the orchestra or band. A huge variety of guitars are available
depending on the different sounds it gives out, thus a player has to alter and
intensify the sound of the guitar.
A variety of acoustic guitars offered are steel string guitars, twelve
string guitars, arch top guitars, flamenco, and classical guitars you may also
get the acoustic bass guitar.
Electronic guitars came along with the arrival of hip hop music of the
twentieth century and the trendy society. The operation of the electronic guitar
is electronically controlled to modulate the sound with the help of an
amplifier. It works on the principal of creating high notes and low notes
depending on the electrical current that is passed through the vibrating
strings, which is further amplified. The guitar gives out these electrical
signals to the amplifier after it is adjusted electronically. Finally the sound
heard is the electronically altered, amplified electronic signal and that’s the
final note. There are certain electronic guitars which create a similar effect
to that of an acoustic guitar with the help of a button.
The structure and the working of the electronic guitar are different than that
of an acoustic guitar. The electronic guitar does not have an empty body, it is
filled and the sound generated is too low when its strings are plucked. In fact
the strings produce an electric current, which is sent to an amplifier through a
wire. The sound generated depends on quality and the thickness of the string and
also on how hard the string was moved, meaning how you play with the guitar.
Electronic guitars are used in a number of music genres like the rock and roll,
blues, modern classical, country, new-age apart from jazz music where it was
only used previously. A fusion of acoustic and electronic guitars are made
available today, the variety also include two three or even four necked guitars
further more to add up something exclusive, exotic guitars are also coming up!
